The Macchi C.202 Folgore (Lightning) entered service in July 1941 and soon emerged as one of the best dogfighters available to the Italian Regia Aeronautica. The Folgore maintained a good kill/loss ratio in extensive combat in the Mediterranean, North Africa, and a limited deployment on the Eastern Front.
